CWNA

Overview

The Wireless LAN Administration course, whether in an academic format or a 5-day fast-track format, provides the networking professional a complete foundation of knowledge for entering into or advancing in the wireless networking industry. From basic RF theory to link budget math, including topics from troubleshooting to performing a site survey, this course delivers hands on training that will benefit the novice as well as the experienced network professional.

CWNA™ covers a broad range of wireless LAN topics focused on 802.11 wireless technology rather than products of specific vendors. With CWNA™ training and certification, you will become prepared to administer any wireless LAN, no matter which vendor product you use.

The main subject areas covered by CWNA are:

  • Radio Technologies

  • Antenna Concepts

  • Wireless LAN Hardware and Software

  • Network Design, Installation, and Management

  • Wireless Standards and Organizations

  • 802.11 Network Architecture

  • Wireless LAN Security

  • Troubleshooting

  • How to Perform Site Surveys

The CWNA™ certification covering the current objectives will certify that successful candidates know the fundamentals of RF behavior, can describe the features and functions of wireless LAN components, and have the skills needed to install, configure, and troubleshoot wireless LAN hardware peripherals and protocols. A typical candidate should have Network+, CCNA, CNA, or MCP certification or equivalent knowledge, although these certifications are not required for CWNA certification.

The skills and knowledge measured by this examination are derived from a survey of current wireless networking experts and professionals. The results of this survey were used in weighing the subject areas and ensuring that weighting on the exam is representative of the relative importance of individual content.
